The problem
Custom video effects normally can't reach the apps people actually call from.

How I approached it
The processed frames are written to a virtual camera device, so every conferencing app sees it as an ordinary webcam with no plugin required.

Works in any call app that can pick a camera.

ASL fingerspelling to text from a webcam. It reads hand geometry instead of pixels, so all 26 letters work with no training, and two seconds of calibration per letter fits it to your own hand.
